Many I stopped reading halfway through. It seemed to me that it was getting very sacrilegious. All the names and stories were too close to Gospel stories. It appeared to me to be going in the direction of Jesus being an androminous female who was not born of the Virgin Mary.

I give it only one star because as a follower of Jesus Christ , Yeshua,I give it one star because as a follower of Yeshua* Jesus Christ - I found it blasphemous.

I wasted my money when I bought this book, because I could not stand to finish. It is a spurious twist on the Bible's account of Jesus Christ's life in the New Testament. A girl named Anna calls herself Jesus, and pretends to be a male. Names and events are borrowed from the NT are changed, such as the 12-year-old real Jesus' questioning the temple priests. It takes a lot of nerve to edit the Bible.

I should have known if this book was recommended by a certain well known celebrity it would be controversial at Best. I am a Christian with an open mind.Changed rating to one star. Every author deserves something for effort. In good conscious, I dare not give it more. This book has very little to do with religion. It has a lot do do with obvious disdain toward all men. Elevates women to the level of God, it will infuriate a true Christian.I originally gave it three stars because there was a few tidbits of wisdom to be gleaned from it's pages if you read between the lines.I chose to use the Spanish pronunciation of the name Jesus, so as to keep the English pronunciation completely out of this book.Weak story, weak characters. Taking the Bible and twisting everything we have been taught, beyond recognition, this author spun a tale of unbelievable fantasy, bordering on science fiction and voo doo ism.Better read this willing to laugh, or cry, for it's complete absurdity. How this got listed as Christian is way beyond my understanding, it is not even religion.I found myself feeling sorry for the author, who must have suffered greatly at the hands of men to be able to write such a book.I thought long nd hard about this review. I hate to use the word blasphemy, now there the ugly word sits.I'm sorry!

I found the story to be disjointed, lacking in transitions, and overall downright confusing. What was the point of the book? To retell the Christian story of Jesus from a feminist perspective, with an hermaphrodite as the daughter/son of God? Why use some names as they were in the Bible, and other times change them? Often times the speaker was neither identified nor obvious, and characters appeared, disappeared, then reappeared in times and ways that begged for transitional statements. I truly believe that the confusion I feel is the result of the author’s writing style rather than a lack of intelligence on my part, as I earned a Ph.D. from Purdue University and was a professor, now professor emeritus, at two major universities for 33 years, though I claim neither literary nor Biblical expertise. I do share the authors beliefs, in so far as I understand them, so I’m glad that she gave voice to them despite the shortcomings which I perceive the book to have.

As a Christian i was very disappointed with this story. Religion and the facts of Christianity can be manipulated so easily, I felt this just made fun of the true story. If the author wouldn't have used the Bible as a background it would have been really good.

I made myself read this book to the end thinking there would be some kind of twist which would redeem the sacrilege all the way through it—Jesus as transgender, Peter homosexual, worshipers of nature and The Great Mother as god. Author went so far as to put actual quotes and actions from the Bible into these characters in such a twisted way it was beyond belief. It makes me sad to think non-Christians may read this novel and consider it historical fiction instead of Satan’s way of misleading people.

The historical aspects of this book were very interesting and well developed. The characters were all deep and meaningful. It could have been a believable story of culture and spiritual beliefs, save one important set of details. The altering of the Christian Gospels and creating a story with them that is completely at odds with the true tenets of Christianity. The belief and worship of a Mother/Earth/God goes back to the earliest man. Healing of body and soul have been practiced in her honor since the beginning of man. But the Christian gospels are not based on a MotherGod. They are all about a one and only God the Father, who ultimately sends His only SON to tell men the story of God and His wisdom and goodness and desires for mankind, and for that SON to ultimately sacrifice His life in our place for us mortal men and our failures to live as God the Father intended, and allowing a new chance to live God's way. If this had simply been a book about a sisterhood of that time period and the way they served their Mother/Goddess, it could have been a great story. By including and twisting the Bible story it left me feeling conflicted about continuing to read it at all. I finished reading the book in hopes it would redeem itself. It did not. It was just an attack on true Christianity by someone pushing the concept of gender fluidity. "Blasphemy" is not a word I have ever really used before, but that was what constantly came to mind as I read this book. It could have been a great book, but messing with the Word of God simply does not work. I am sorry I wasted my time. God, the Father Almighty, Maker of Heaven and Earth; and Jesus Christ is His only Son, our Lord.
