The book is easy to read with illustrations that demonstrate the many techniques the author provides. It is not a boring textbook and is written in a way to make you feel like the author is having a conversation with you or is the cool teacher who makes class fun, yet the information provided is more than just simple. The author draws on his real life experiences and shares stories on how he has used his survivalist knowledge in everyday situations. Even if you don't have the urge to pack a backpack and go hiking in the mountains, this book has everything you need and provides a great foundation of knowledge to be prepared and to handle emergencies that may arise.Practice makes perfect - love the Dirt Time conclusions of the topics and the encouragement to get kids involved.
Truly enjoyed reading the book! Will continue to reread and get my 'dirt time' in. The book is written in an easy to understand format and at times almost feels like the author is in the room with you talking about the tips and techniques found in the book. Wish I could've read through this book many moons ago when I first started to go hunting and again just before I went through survival school myself. I'll be recommending the book to others who are interested in learning more or perhaps those who need to learn more.Hoping there's follow-on editions that go into more details for some of the specific subject areas.
J Meyer draws on his own life experience to bring us a straightforward guide on how to survive in dangerous circumstances. His stories and examples are credible and relatable. Of specific interest, are the emergency checklists that he provides that everyone should have in the car and the home. The book also provides insights that are applicable in normal daily lives e.g. the need to keep hydrated & the physiological changes that take place inside you when you have not drunk enough water.The recommendations in this book are immediately applicable.
I cannot stop reading this book. Seriously it's a very good read. I like the way the author uses examples to really get the reader to start thinking about what needs to be done. I feel this book is a good starting point that should get anybody in the mindset of always being prepared.
A good entry level survival text. This book is a great place to start if your interested in learning some survival skills and your starting with none. JWM does a good job of covering the basics, shelter, fire, water, food and throws in some extras. The anecdotes are fun to read as well. I didn't find anything in the book that I thought would get you killed!
Great read on very applicable preparedness tools for everyday life. Be prepared for the unexpected to ensure you, your family, and friends stay safe!
