My daughter finished 2nd grade this year and I am always looking for summer reading and educational things for her to do and keep up on when school is out. Social studies is one of her favorite topics and she excels at it over her other subjects in school. Downloading this kindle e book was a no brainer to add to her every growing kindle collection that I just can't keep up on. Downloading it was a cinch with amazons one click kindle delivery. Honestly it's so easy to get on your device my 8 yr old could do it herself. She was excited to see it appear on her kindle last night after I added it for her. The book itself is a quick read, I mean you could book mark where every you wanted and finish it later. But I have a book worm on my hands & well books don't really go unfinished in our house. The book is exactly what it says it is, a book on the first 13 colonies in the United States of America. It gives you page by page of each "state" or colony along with history of each geographical location and information about the period at that time. I liked that it also cross referenced the shapes of the states as I feel it's a good sight reminder of what the states look like as she was reading through the kindle book. She will be learning all about the states this year so it's great to have that as an added reminder in her mind. I received a discount on this book in exchange for my honest review. I know we will be reviewing it more than once this summer to add a little history to her mind before 3rd grade starts in September!
SUMMARY: This book provides a little visual and conceptual glimpse of each of the 13 colonies. The visual picture is on the left page and the 2 sentence briefing is on the right. It’s a great way to introduce youngsters to a taste of our country’s heritage.CONTENTS: This 18 page book gives a two-page glimpse of each colony. It starts with pictures of each colony/province on one page, along with a one or two-sentence fact about that province (see pictures) on the corresponding page. At the end there is a map with each colony highlighted in a color.MY IMPRESSIONS: I have always felt I didn’t receive as much education about our nation and I consequently I feel like kids need additional pushes by adults in their lives to really learn about and embrace this country and its history. Ever talk to 20 year-olds about the history of America? It’s as if they never learned anything aside from , ‘Uhh…I think we went to war a few times with…like, England….and, ummm…with ourselves?’ Basically, I think books like these are really important – to weave into them an understanding of and appreciation for the nation we call home. This book is a great way to sow a few little facts into young minds. It’s a perfect stepping stone to make kids aware about the beginnings of our nation before they are able to understand history in more detail.I received this product for free in exchange for an honest review. This is my honest opinion of the product and I had getting involved in the learning process with my nephew. I hope my experience helps!
Adding my review of The Thirtenen Colonies in the US as an ebook, so bare with me. I downloaded this instantly from amazon after purchase, to my cell phone to use with my free kindle app on phone. Unfortunately, my actual Kindle Fire was having difficulties and I could not download to it. So my review is based on using a Samsung Galaxy S5 phone screen.Everyone can use a refresher course on our founding 13 colonies in the US, and this book does just that. This is an introductory book about the 13 colonies formed in the US. Please keep keep in mind this ebook is only a short book naming each colony and The text provided is short and to the point, giving the date the colony was founded, in some places, by who and/or why named as such, and a small tidbit of history. This is not a detailed history lesson of each colony.For each colony, this is an illustrated map. At the end is a pciture of a map of what the colonies looked like altogether. Very clean cut, and to the point, keeping the childs attention.I received this ebook for free or a discounted price to offer my honest opinion concerning this ebook. I received this book titled The Thirteen Colonies in the US: 3rd Grade US History Series: American History Encyclopedia (Children's American Revolution History) Kindle Edition on July 8, 2016. I read the entire book to my children as a story before bedtime. I have a six year old daughter and a four year old son. I engaged both of their attentions throughout the entire reading of this book. They enjoyed the blue outlines of each state and I enjoyed learning about the interesting facts about the thirteen original colonies. I wish the book was a longer. I was just getting to know more about Georgia when the book ends abruptly. Most of the pictures were of standard format and goes well with the text. This book talks about the British colonies that settled along the northeast North American continent between 1607 and 1732. The thirteen original colonies are as follows, the provinces and colonies of: New Hampshire, Massachusetts Bay, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. My kids and I all enjoyed reading this great book with many interesting facts about the thirteen original colonies. I hope we can find more books that are similar to this one by the same publisher or author. I did find a few grammatical errors in this book. I wish there were more pictures of the different British pioneers that lived in these colonies in the times of early North American settlements as well as the Native Americans that they may have encountered.
