Warm, fond memories of meals and places in Italy, written in clear prose that sings. The author includes many recipes and I book marked quite a few. If you have read and enjoyed Patience Grey's "Honey from a Weed", then you need to read this book. (And if you haven't, you need to!) Lovely little line sketches are scattered throughout.
Love it love it cooking and reading the story was beautiful.
I loved this book written by expats relocated to Umbria. The recipes are simple and earthy - this is the kind of food we fix at our house. The accompanying descriptive passages are beautifully written. I found the religious quotes to be distracting, and therefore the 4 vs 5 stars.
I feel like these are easy and truely regional recipes. We have had a couple of them several times as Italian is one of our favorites.
I can not say how much joy your cook book give me for the new year's am going to cook everything from your book .thank you so much for writing this book
I highly recommend this cookbook, not only for the authentic and wonderful recipes, but for the down-to-earth stories of everyday Italian life. The funeral cookie story will certainly make you laugh! Thank you, Ginda, for writing down your experiences for us to savor. I'm looking forward to your next book!
Ginda's cookbook is full of great recipes from Artichoke Chicken to Zuppa Frantoiana (Tuscan white bean soup), but if that isn't enough to draw you in, you will love reading the anecdotes sprinkled throughout the book that tie all the dishes together. With some snippets you'll learn the history of a recipe or a cultural tradition, with others you'll devour how certain foods came into Ginda's life, and then, of course, there's my favorite -- the one about the shepherd in Calabria making pecorino as it's been made for centuries.Ginda's writing style is friendly and conversational, so you'll feel like you have a supportive guide in the kitchen with you as you work your way through 70 gorgeous recipes; if you're like me, though, you'll read through all the stories first and then backtrack through the recipes, re-reading the stories as you make your way through the book again.Highly recommended.
A gentle surrender to the charms and vagaries of life in the Umbrian countryside; sensitively and lovingly described, make this unpretentious little slice of life a delight from start to finish.
