Likes: Good for learning Hiragana and Katakana. Visually appealing. Has basic pronunciations for people who do not know any Japanese. Fun for children.Dislikes: This is a standard book used for many languages (I also have the Chinese one) so a lot of the words in here come from English. There are a few questionable words that arent the same as what I've heard native Japanese people use. I am not sure if they are correct. So I skip over those pages.I think this book is best used by someone who already knows some Japanese. That way, they can distinguish between which words are correct.

This book is very simple, but it exposes young learners to some basic elements of Japanese language such as hiragana and katakana. The words in the book are used in daily life, and each word is shown in either katakana/hiragana, romanji, English and with a pronunciation guide. The pictures are adorable, too! I got this book for a unit on Japan I did in my second grade class, and my students truly adore it. It sparked the interest of learning more Japanese, and they certainly love learning new words to show off to their parents. I highly recommend it.

I love this book me and my son enjoy the simplicity of the words and pictures. Make more editions of this with different words I'll buy them all!

The best part: learning how to write in Japanese. Least favorite: would have liked some words that weren’t there as opposed to some that were there.

I know this is suppose to be for kids and for fun, but they chose words that are basically how they are said in english. Wow, shirt is shirt with an accent, banana is banana, ice cream is ice cream, supermarket is, surprise, supermarket. My kids are very interested in learning different languages as we are mixed races and I don't expect them to be fluent by picking up a little guide book, but it would be more fun if they could have chosen words that weren't similar to the english word. There were a few fun ones, but nothing worth getting this book over. I returned this book and will stick with the free apps we get if we just want to pick up a few words here and there.
